Sustainability

Our pledge to sustainability

As we venture into some wild and wonderful destinations, we strive to ensure that our own impact on the places we travel is just as positive as the experiences we take away.

We take this responsibility seriously, and all Röam itineraries are created with careful consideration to our environmental and social footprint, and an awareness of the delicate balance that exists between local people and the natural environment.

For us, ensuring that our trips have an overall positive impact means thinking carefully about the protection, preservation, and conservation of the natural ecosystems we visit, consciously considering the impacts of visitation on local communities and striving to ensure locally derived tourism benefits and sustainable long-term visitation in each destination that we offer.

Low volume, immersive itineraries.

We prioritize low volume travel and focus on designing customized expeditions for small private groups. Our itineraries are designed to be immersive, and our trips always prioritize local and traditional knowledge.

We do this primarily by working closely with local guides or communities who can connect our clients intimately to the history, culture, and ecology of each destination.

Carbon Offsets

We strive to offset the carbon we create through travel by working with Koobi Carbon to determine the footprint of every trip we design. Our offsets go directly towards projects in global priority areas for biodiversity and wildlife conservation. As part of this commitment, we build a carbon pledge into all our itineraries, providing clients the opportunity to choose which projects they wish to put their credits towards in the Koobi’s portfolio.

Ecological sustainability

On the ground we aim to leave nothing behind and use only what we need in the most sustainable way. While each destination is different, all our trips are planned with absolute attention to the conscious use of local and natural resources, waste management, avoidance of single use plastics and the use of eco-friendly products and materials. This includes our tents, which are handmade from 100% sustainable cotton, free from toxic chemicals, and produced in line international fair trade and labor standards

Social responsibility

We also take great care to understand both the positive and negative implications of our trips on local communities. Above all, we aim to ensure local people experience direct benefits from visitation, either through using local guides and/or by identifying core community needs and opportunities that Röam and our clients can support through long-term engagement in each destination that we offer.
